Remove/install

Detach front wheel and tire assembly



 Self-locking bolt, cover panel to brake caliper support

Remove suspension strut (3) from steering knuckle (4)

with CODE 489 (AIRmatic (air suspension with continuous adjustment damping))

Detach left front axle rpm sensor (L6/1) or right front axle rpm sensor (L6/2) from steering knuckle (4)

Detach tie rod (5) from steering knuckle (4)

Turn in steering onto lock and check for correct seating of  puller on the tie rod (5).
If seating is incorrect, damage to the steel contact ring of the tie rod (5) occurs and this results in destruction of the tie rod (5).

 Installation: Only tighten the nuts of the bracket (9) after installing the supporting strut (10).

Remove torque strut (6) from steering knuckle (4)

Check

Check elastomer bearing of cross strut (7)

If damaged, see:



Replace cross strut (7).

Check follower joint

If damaged, see:

Replace upper ball joint.

Check rubber boot and ball joint of torque strut (6) for signs of damage

If damaged, see:
