Remove

Remove hub reduction gear from steering knuckle (11)

 Do not disassemble hub reduction gear.

Remove tie rod (1) from steering knuckle arm (2) or steering knuckle arm

 Tie rod (1) detaches suddenly.

Detach drag link (3) from steering knuckle arm (2) and tie to frame



with HEMA 8098 steeringThe pitman arm must not be adjusted after the drag link (3) is removed.
Otherwise, the pressure limiting valves in the steering gear may be misadjusted, leading to steering malfunctions.

 The drag link (3) loosens suddenly.

Remove banjo bolt (4) of vent line

Remove banjo bolt (5) of tire pressure connection

Remove rpm sensor (6)

Remove shock absorber (7) from front axle

Lift up vehicle frame until the front axle spring can be removed

Support vehicle frame using jack stands

Remove front axle spring

Remove end plate (9) and take out spacer ring together with shims

Remove joint bearing (12)

Remove retaining ring (16) and take out shims

Screw short thread end of threaded pin of extraction tool into both parts of bearing (17)

The threaded pin of the  extraction tool must be completely screwed by hand into both parts of the bearing (17).
The threaded pin or bearing (17) can otherwise be damaged.

If the treaded pin cannot be screwed in far enough.



Move steering knuckle (11) back and forth until the threaded pin can be screwed into both parts of the bearing (17) with little effort.

Remove bearing (17) using extraction tool

Remove steering knuckle arm (2) or steering knuckle arm

Swivel steering knuckle (11) downwards and remove bearing (10)

 Hold bearing (10) together.

Remove steering knuckle (11)

Remove cassette-type sealing ring (14)



Check

Check kingpins (19, 20) for wear and damage

If there are problems



Replace corresponding kingpins (19, 20).

Coat new cassette-type sealing ring (14) with long-life grease

Replace fabric ring

 A fabric ring is installed instead of the dust ring (22).
The chamfer on the fabric ring must point upwards.

Hang steering knuckle (11) above upper kingpin (19)

Coat bearing shell half in steering knuckle (11) and bearing (10) with sealant

 Hold bearing (10) together.

Loctite 5203 sealant

Slide bearing (10) onto lower kingpin (20) and install steering knuckle (11)

 Hold bearing (10) together.

Coat bearing shell half in steering knuckle arm (2) or knuckle arm with sealant

Coat screws/bolts (8) with sealant

Install steering knuckle arm (2) or steering knuckle arm

 Screw/bolt, track and steering arm to steering knuckle

Push steering knuckle (11) upwards using vehicle jack

Install new joint bearing (12) up to end stop

 The joint bearing (12) must be replaced.

Insert guide pin of assembly tool into both halves of the new bearing (17)

 The bearing (17) must be replaced.

Insert shims at bearing (17) and install retaining ring (16)

 Insert the required number of shims so that the retaining ring (16) can be installed in the steering knuckle (11) with zero clearance.

Lift up front axle until the shock absorber (7) can be mounted

Attach shock absorber (7) to front axle

Mount tie rod (1) to steering knuckle arm (2) or the steering knuckle arm
