Remove/install

Remove wheels from axle concerned.

 After jacking up, leave the lifting device positioned at the front axle.

Remove ball head of drag link (11) from steering arm.

 If necessary, remove cap (9). The ball head of the drag link (11) detaches abruptly.

 Installation: Replace nut (10).

 Nut to tie rod end and drag link end

Remove left and right anti-lock braking system (ABS) rpm sensor.

Disconnect electrical connector from brakepad wear sensor (1).


Detach and attach the connector in an axial direction only.
Otherwise, the electrical connector can be damaged.

Remove connection of compressed-air lines (8) from brake cylinders.

Support front axle (17) using lifting device and secure to prevent it from tilting over.

Remove shock absorber (5) from spring supports (4).

Remove bearing caps (14) and swing stabilizer (15) downward.

 Bearing cap of torsion bar to front axle bearing bracket

Remove screws (12) and take off bearing brackets (16).

 Installation: First guide two new bolts (12) through the rear holes of the front axle (17) and position at the clamping plates (3).
Then guide two new bolts (12) through the bearing brackets (16) and through the front holes of the front axle (17) and position at the clamping plates (3).
Then tighten all screws (12).

Lower front axle (17) and remove spring supports (4).

 Installation: Apply a thin coating of grease to the mounting holes for the center bolts in the spring supports (4).
When raising the front axle (17), make sure that the center bolts engage in the mounting hole of the spring supports (4).

Remove front axle (17) from under vehicle.

Install in the reverse order.

Check/adjust steering stop.
