Testing and repair work between the wheel and wheel arch or in the wheel well should only be performed if the vehicle is secured using suitable support fixtures to prevent it from lowering.
Adjustment operations should only be performed from underneath the vehicle.
Use only suitable support fixtures to secure the vehicle frame or vehicle axles in order to prevent them from lowering.
If necessary, additionally use suitable support fixtures in order to prevent other moving vehicle parts that are in the working area from lowering, or use suitable retaining devices to prevent these parts from moving suddenly and without warning.

Remove/install

Switch on ignition and lift vehicle frame at rear axle using level control system up to maximum height.

Only for vehicles with air-sprung rear axle.

 Installation: Move vehicle frame at rear axle using level control system to normal level.

Support vehicle frame at rear and switch off ignition.

Only for vehicles with air-sprung rear axle.

Remove upper section of fender on right and left of rear axle.

Disconnect electrical connector between wiring harness of fifth wheel coupling (1) and frame wiring harness.

Carry out only when available.

Attach lifting gear to fifth wheel coupling (1).

 Use lifting gear with sufficient load capacity. The fifth wheel coupling (1) and assembly plate (2) can have a weight of up to approx. 300 kg.

Remove assembly plate (2) from subframe (3), take this off together with the mounted fifth wheel coupling (1) using the lifting gear and place onto a suitable stowage box/tray.

Only if fifth wheel coupling (1) is replaced.

Install in the reverse order.
