Remove/install

1

Switch on ignition.

 Hood and doors must be closed.

Release parking brake.

Shift automatic transmission to "Permanent N" using selector lever.

 The display of the instrument cluster shows the message:
"Permanent N activated, risk of rolling".

Switch off ignition.

 Do not remove the transmitter key.
The transmitter key must remain inserted during the entire repair, otherwise the vehicle will switch to the park position.

Disconnect ground line from battery.

Remove propeller shaft.

 Installation: Only install underfloor paneling after the leak test.

Remove transmission mount.

Secure transmission (5) on support plate.



Remove propeller shaft from front axle differential and propeller shaft intermediate bearing from transmission (5).

Make sure that the propeller shaft is moved in an almost straight position at all times. An articulation angle of 15° must not be exceeded. Helper required.
Otherwise, damage will occur and the propeller shaft will have to be replaced.

Lower transmission (5) until all screws (6) on the transfer case (7) are accessible.

Remove screws (6) and remove transfer case (7) with inserted propeller shaft.

 Installation: Replace screw/bolts (6).
Before mounting the transfer case (7) coat the gearing of the transmission's output shaft (5) with grease.

Remove propeller shaft from transfer case (7).

Check intermediate panel (8) for damage.

If damage is found,



Replace intermediate panel(8).

Install in the reverse order.

 Caution

Risk of injury to skin and eyes due to handling of transmission oil. Health risk caused by swallowing transmission oil

Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.
Do not pour transmission oil into beverage bottles.

Check and correct oil level of transfer case (7).
