Danger!

Risk of death caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform.

Align vehicle between columns of vehicle lift and position four support plates at vehicle lift support points specified by vehicle manufacturer.

Move DIRECT SELECT gear selector switch to position "N"

Release parking brake

Disconnect lines of pressure differential sensor (DPF) (B28/8) at connecting points on the diesel particulate filter

Vehicles with diesel engine

 Installation: Replace clamps.

Disconnect electrical connector at pressure differential sensor (DPF) (B28/8)

Vehicles with diesel engine

Detach front bracket(s) of the exhaust system at the transmission (27) and on the frame floor assembly in the area of the propeller shaft

Detach stiffening bridge below the propeller shaft from the frame floor



Remove propeller shaft shields

 All three shields must be removed.

Mark rear propeller shaft relative to output flange (9)

Apply color coding of the propeller shaft position relative to the output flange (9) in order to reproduce the plant's installation position when installing.

Detach rear propeller shaft from output flange (9)

 Installation: Observe tightening procedure for rear propeller shaft to adapter housing (9).

Support transmission (27) and secure to prevent it from falling down

Remove rear engine crossmember

Lower transmission (27)

Detach adapter housing (8) from intermediate housing (28)

 Installation: Grease splined profile of intermediate shaft (7) and toothing on connecting flange (2) lightly.

 Installation: Pay attention to correct seat of dowel pins in intermediate housing (28).



Remove bolts (6) and remove intermediate housing (28) from transmission (27)

If necessary

 Installation: Install new bolts (6).

 Installation: Pay attention to correct seat of dowel pins in intermediate housing (28).



Remove seal (10) from intermediate housing (28)

If necessary

Detach bracket (17) of pressure sensor (DPF) (B28/8) and bracket (16) of exhaust system from adapter housing (8)

Only when replacing adapter housing (8) on vehicles with diesel engine

Checking

Check gasket (10) for damage

Replace if necessary.

Check rear engine mount (5) for wear

Replace if necessary.

Check position of intermediate shaft in adapter housing (8)

Replace adapter housing (8) in the event of wear or damage.

Check radial shaft sealing ring on output flange for leaktightness

Replace if necessary.
