Disassemble/assemble

 Danger!

Risk of poisoning caused by swallowing brake fluid. Risk of injury caused by brake fluid coming into contact with skin and eyes.

Pour brake fluid only into suitable and appropriately marked containers. Wear protective clothing and eye protection when handling brake fluid.

Remove shift control unit

Models 930, 932, 933, 934, 950, 952, 953, 954, model 940, 942, 943, 944, right-hand drive vehicles only

 To prevent malfunctions, it is essential to observe the following points during assembly work on the shift control unit:

- Maintain the utmost cleanliness.

- Only use the lubricant (silicone grease) supplied in the parts kit.

Pull boot (1) off shift lever unit (2)

 Installation: Press the boot (1) into the lower and upper groove on the shift lever unit (2).

Detach gear piston (3) and gate piston (4) from the shift lever unit (2)

 Installation: Replace the bolts.

After installing, check the joint and gearshift lever lock in the shift lever unit (2) for proper operation; to do this, move the shift lever unit (2) in all gearshift lever directions.



Identify shift lever unit (2) relative to housing (14) and detach shift lever unit (2)

 Installation: Note marking.



Remove O-ring (13)

 Installation: Install new O-ring (13).

Identify gear piston (3) and gate piston (4) relative to housing (14)

 Use marking tape or self-adhesive labels.

Pull gear piston (3) and gate piston (4) from the housing (14)

 Check piston (groove and contact surface) as well as joints on the piston rods for damage, replace piston if necessary.

 Installation: Observe installation location and diameter of pistons.

Pull vent and breather pipe (11) out of housing (14)

 Installation: Replace the vent and breather pipe (11) and O-ring (12).

Remove sealing elements from the housing (14)

Check springs (21) in both gate cylinders (arrows) for damage

 The springs (21) are permanently installed.

Pull expansion reservoir (18) out of housing (14)

 Collect escaping brake and hydraulic fluid.

 Installation: Check the boot (19) in the shift control unit; replace if necessary.

Unscrew screw plug (20) and connection fitting (17)

 Installation: Replace sealing rings.



Unscrew gear pressure relief valve (15) and gate pressure relief valve (16)

 Do not damage the strainers in the gear pressure relief valve (15) and gate pressure relief valve (16).



 Installation: Check every pressure relief valve by shaking to establish whether the pin can move freely. If a rattling noise cannot be heard in the pressure relief valve, tap the pressure relief valve against a soft object and repeat the check.



Pressure sensor 1 for shift force assist (B88) and pressure sensor 2 for shift force (B89) on shift control unit

 Installation: Replace O-rings.


