1 | Remove engine brake flap connection | ||

3 | Inspect compressor housing and intake pipe for oil leaks | If the charge air passages are slightly moistened with oil, this is not an indication of turbocharger damage. The quantity of oil which flows out is so minor in such a case that it has not measurable influence on the oil consumption of the engine.

4 | Clamp turbocharger in vice at exhaust connection | Use aluminum jaws | |
5 | Inspect axial play at rotor shaft | Fit on dial gage with dial gage holder so that dial gage is positioned on the end face (1) of turbine wheel. Pre-load dial gage and position scale to "0". | |

Inspect axial play of rotor shaft. If measurement exceeds the maximum permissible play: | |||
Replace turbocharger | |||
