Removing

Remove engine

Fasten engine to a suitable assembly stand

 The timing case must be exposed.

Only for model 671.042: disconnect transmission from engine.

Remove camshaft sprocket

Remove rocker arm assembly

Remove push rods

Remove timing case

Swivel engine in repair stand 180°

 When this is done, the roller tappet drops in their guides toward the cylinder head.

Pull camshaft (3) out of crankcase



 Attach guide sleeve to the front camshaft and pull out camshaft in direction of timing case.

Two fitters are required for pulling out camshaft in order to avoid damaging camshaft bearings in the crankcase.

Checking

Inspect camshaft

 Check for cracks, score mark and condition of the cam.

Check roller tappet



Install

Push camshaft (3) into crankcase



 Attach guide sleeve to front camshaft and lubricate journal with engine oil.

Two fitters are required for pushing in camshaft in order to avoid damaging camshaft bearings in the crankcase.

Adjust timing

 The denoted tooth of the crankshaft gear must be located between the denoted teeth of the camshaft sprocket. Then remove guide sleeve.

Attach timing case
