Remove engine.

 See information from body manufacturer.

Remove timing case.

Remove crankshaft bearing caps (5) and crankshaft thrust bearing cap (6).

Check marking of crankshaft bearing caps (5) and crankshaft thrust bearing cap (6).

If the marking is no longer recognizable:



Mark the corresponding crankshaft bearing cap (5) and crankshaft thrust bearing cap (6) again.

Remove thrust plates (4) from crankshaft thrust bearing cap (6).

Remove bearing shells (3) from crankshaft bearing caps (5) and crankshaft thrust bearing cap (6).

Mark bearing shells (3) relative to the respective crankshaft bearing cap (5) and crankshaft thrust bearing cap (6).

10

Screw centering drifts into crankshaft (1) at the front and rear and fasten a suitable shackle to it.

Lift crankshaft (1) with the shackle out of crankcase (10) and set it down.

Remove crankshaft gear (8).

Take bearing shells (2) out of crankcase (10).

Mark bearing shells (2) relative to crankcase (10).



Check

Clean crankshaft (1) and oil duct in crankshaft (1) and check oil duct for continuity.

Visually check crankshaft (1) for damage, cracks, and galling.

If damage, cracks or galling is present:



Replace crankshaft (1).

Clean bearing shells (2, 3) and main bearing journal of crankshaft (1) with a lint-free cleaning cloth and visually check for wear.

If wear is present,



Replace or process affected parts.

Measure concentricity of crankshaft (1) at center main bearing journal.

Fit appropriate new screw/bolt (7).

Check dowel pin (9) in crankshaft (1) for damage and tight seating.

If damage is present:



replace dowel pin (9).



Install

Remove metal abrasion from oil ducts and clean inner components.

Only if bearing damage has occurred.

Coat treads of bearing shells (2) with engine oil.

Insert bearing shells (2) into crankcase (10).


The oil holes of bearing shells (2) must match the oil holes in crankcase (10).
Otherwise, damage to the bearing may occur.

 Observe marking and installation position of bearing shells (2) relative to crankcase (10).

Position crankshaft (1) with the shackle on bearing shells (2) in crankcase (10).

Remove shackle and centering drifts from crankshaft (1).

Coat treads of bearing shells (3) and thrust plates (4) with engine oil.

Insert bearing shells (3) into crankshaft bearing caps (5) and crankshaft thrust bearing cap (6).

 Observe marking and installation position of bearing shells (3) relative to respective crankshaft bearing cap (5) and to crankshaft thrust bearing cap (6).

Install crankshaft thrust bearing cap (6) with inserted bearing shell (3) and thrust plates (4).

 Note installation position of thrust plates (4). The oil grooves (B) must point outward.

Install crankshaft bearing caps (5) with inserted bearing shells (3).

 Observe installation position of crankshaft bearing caps (5). Crankshaft bearing caps (5) are marked and must be installed in ascending order, starting opposite the output side. The crankshaft bearing caps (5) are shaped asymmetrically and can be installed only in one position.

Wet bolts (7) with engine oil, insert in crankshaft bearing caps (5) and crankshaft thrust bearing cap (6) and tighten.

Manually turn crankshaft (1) and check for unobstructed movement.
