Risk of death caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform.

Align vehicle between columns of vehicle lift and position four support plates at vehicle lift support points specified by vehicle manufacturer.

On vehicles with code (474) particulate filter, a throttle valve actuator is installed instead of intake air throttle (2)

Secure vehicle on the lifting platform

 Position arms of lifting platform such that fender liners (6) in front fenders can be removed.

Remove air filter housing

Separate charge air pipe (1) from charge air cooler

 Improper disassembly of the retaining bracket may cause the connection to become unstable.

Turn front wheels to the left until the bolt (3) of the steering coupling (4) can be reached easily.

Fix steering wheel in position using the retainer.

 On a disengaged steering coupling (4) the steering wheel should not be turned because the clock spring contact will be destroyed.



Disconnect steering shaft from rack-and-pinion steering (4)

Loosen both fender liners (6) at rear sides on undercarriage and fold forward.

 so that all bolts of the front axle carrier (14) can be undone.

Unhook exhaust system (7) from rubber mounts (8).

 Installation: Wet rubber mount (8) with liquid lubricant.

Remove bolt (9) and unscrew nuts (10).

Remove bolt (11) of ground strap at oil pan.



Unclip pressure line of hydraulic clutch operating system from transmission and from firewall.

Unscrew nut (12) and remove bolt at left front level sensor (B22/8).

Disconnect electrical connector from left front level sensor (B22/8).

Mount support fixture (13) at front axle carrier (14) using engine hoist.



Remove bolts (15, 4 bolts) for front axle carrier (14)

Screw threaded pins (17) of fixing bolts into threaded holes of bolts (15) and insert stops (18).

 Ensure that stops (18) are positioned in the middle of the threaded pins (17).



Remove bolts (16, 4 bolts) and lower front axle carrier (14)

 When lowering check for unobstructed movement of coolant hoses, air-conditioning hoses and electric lines, in order to avoid causing any damage.

 Installation: Guides on front axle carrier (14) must be inserted into the holes in longitudinal members.

Pay attention to guides at radiator.


