| Check | ||
Status | |||
1 | Open engine compartment flap
2 | Check actuating cylinder for engine brake, linkages and throttle shaft for wear | Replace problem parts against a separate repair order.
3 | Check for firm seating of throttle lever (1) on the throttle shaft
Adjustment | |||
4 | Check preload of the actuating cylinder for the engine brake in the engine brake park position | The preload is sufficient if the throttle lever (1) is touching the bracket (2) with the force of the return spring on the actuating cylinder for the engine brake. In operating position the throttle lever (1) must again touch the bracket (2).
5 | Check position of throttle shaft in neutral position and in operating position | In neutral position the notch (4) must be parallel, and in operating position perpendicular, to the flow direction of the exhaust gases.
6.1 | Disconnect electrical connector on electropneumatic 2/3-way control valve for engine brake and connect to the 24 V DC voltage source | Only on vehicles with automatic engine brake shutoff in combination with the automatic transmission.
In order to actuate the engine brake for a stationary vehicle or stationary engine it is necessary for the solenoid on the electropneumatic 2/3-way control valve for the engine brake to be connected directly to the 24 V DC voltage source. The electropneumatic 2/3-way engine brake control valve is located on the right in front of the rear axle.
6.2 | Actuate engine brake | Only on vehicles without automatic engine brake shutoff in combination with a manual transmission. The engine brake actuating cylinder must disengage and the injection pump control lever must remain in the closed throttle position. |
