IC parameterization

The instrument cluster must be reparameterized using the HHT in the following cases::

After installing a different rear axle ratio or size of tire,

After replacing the instrument cluster.

As the instrument cluster can only be parameterized when removed, an adapter cable (parameterizing cable) is required to connect the voltage supply from the instrument/HHT.

The HHT recognizes the instrument cluster variant via the MB part number and only supplies available the parameterizing functions required for this instrument cluster.

Parameter functions:

01 HHT number entered

The HHT number of the HHT connected is automatically stored in the instrument cluster when a parameter is changed and cannot be changed manually.

If the instrument cluster has never been parameterized using an HHT, the number of the relevant plant appears at this point.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

02 Kilometer/mileage reading

To prevent manipulation the kilometer/mileage reading can only be changed during the first

300 km/190 miles..

Once the appropriate menu item in the HHT is selected, the HHT symbol "C" (clear) and in < (flashing) appears at the point where a value can be changed. The kilometer/mileage reading can now be entered via the HHT keypad.

Note

When parameterization is complete the newly set kilometer/mileage reading should be checked again as it is not possible to subsequently make retroactive corrections above 300 km/190 miles.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

K-Factor (pulses/km)

With parameterization a distinction is made manually between the k-factor for production vehicles and the k-factor. In both cases this value is used by the instrument cluster to calculate the distance covered and the vehicle speed signal .

03 K-factor for production vehicle

There are tables for adjusting the k-factor in the HHT for the following components fitted at the plant:

Tire size, axle ratio

After selecting the relevant menu item in the HHT, the optional equipment variants for production vehicles appear as submenu items.

The variant applicable to the vehicle (shown against a black background) must be selected and confirmed with the input key.

04 K-factor manual

The k-factor must be calculated in accordance with the formula below (e.g. retrofitting tire sizes which do not correspond to the production version of the vehicle), for retroactive changes which are not covered by the tables in menu item 03 (k-factor for production vehicle)..

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Once the relevant menu item in the HHT is selected the HHT symbol "C" (clear) and ?in < (flashing) appears at the point where a value can be changed. The k-factor can now be entered via the HHT keypad.

K-factor=4000 x axle ratio / (dynamic tire circumference) +1% of the calculated k-factor

Tire size 195/70R15C

dynamic tire circumference=1.985m

Tire size 225/70R15C

dynamic tire circumference=2.11m

Note

If the K-factor in the instrument cluster is changed, on engine 111 the PEC engine control module must be reset so that the new value can be adopted by the PEC control module. Refer to PEC, menu item 5 in the HHT, control module programming.

05 Distance covered

With this parameterizing function it is possible to select between a display in kilometers or miles.

Once the corresponding menu item in the HHT is selected the choice of kilometers or miles appears as a submenu .

The display applicable to the vehicle must be selected (shown against a black background) and confirmed with the input key.

06 RPM counter (pulses/revolution)

The pulses per revolution depend on the engine variant.

Once the corresponding menu item in the HHT is selected the optional engine variants for this model appears as a submenu.

1 2 M111

2 5 OM602

3 144 OM601

The engine applicable to the vehicle (shown against a black background) must be selected and confirmed with the input key.

07 Outside temperature indicator

With this parameterizing function it is possible to select between a display in degrees Celsius and degrees Fahrenheit.

Once the corresponding menu item in the HHT is selected, the display in °C and in °F appears as a submenu.

The display applicable to the vehicle (shown against a black background) must be selected and confirmed with the input key.

08 Gear indicator

With this parameterization function the gear indicator

can be inserted or removed.

Once the corresponding menu item in the HHT is selected, the choice of manual transmission or 4-speed automatic transmission appears as a submenu item.

The display applicable to the vehicle must be selected (shown against a black background) and confirmed with the input key.
