1 To check the wear pattern, coat two teeth 180 degrees apart on the ring gear with blue ink.
2 Spin the drive pinion forward and back.
The following contact patterns at the ring gear may occur when the ring gear is subjected to stresses.
D35.30-0003-01
A Correct tooth contact
Such an ideal contact pattern is rarely obtained in practice. However it is important that the contact pattern is towards the base of the tooth (towards the center of the ring gear) both with and without load.
The contact pattern must not extend to the outside edge of the tooth at any point.
D35.30-0004-01
B Contact at tip of tooth (unacceptable)
Measures:
The ring gear teeth mesh slightly less deeply in the teeth of the drive pinion and increase the gear backlash of the ring gear slightly.
D35.30-0005-01
C Contact at base of tooth (unacceptable)
Measures:
The ring gear teeth mesh slightly deeper in the teeth of the drive pinion and decrease the gear backlash of the ring gear slightly.
