Remove, install engine oil cooler

Removing

 Danger!

Risk of injury to skin and eyes caused by scalding from contact with hot coolant spray. Risk of poisoning caused by swallowing coolant.

Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90°C. Open cap slowly and release the pressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage containers.

Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.

Notes on coolant

Detach oil line to oil filler screw (6)

 Collect engine oil which runs out in a suitable container.

Remove oil filler screw (6) on oil filter head

 Clean area around oil filler plug (6) thoroughly beforehand.

Remove oil drain screw (4) on oil filter bowl (5)

 Drain engine oil from oil filter bowl (5) and catch in a suitable container.

Remove drain plug (3) for coolant from oil cooler housing (1)

 Drain coolant and collect in a suitable container.

Remove oil filter bowl (5)

 Remove oil filter bowl (5) bolt to oil filter head.
Ensure that no foreign object can find its way into the filter housing.

Remove bolts (2) and oil cooler housing (1) from crankcase

Remove seal (8) from oil cooler housing (1)



Install

Attach seal (8) to oil cooler housing (1)

 Install new seal (8).

Attach oil cooler housing (1) to crankcase and screw in bolts (2)

 First fit all bolts (2) by hand.
Tighten bolts (2) starting from the middle evenly to the specified tightening torque otherwise leaks can occur between oil cooler housing (1) and crankcase.



Screw drain plug (3) for coolant into oil cooler housing (1)



 Install new seal for drain plug (3).

 Clean drain plug (3).



Install oil filter bowl (5)



 Replace sealing ring on oil filter bowl (5) and sealing ring on bolt.

 Oil drain opening of oil drain screw (4) must point downwards.



Screw in oil drain screw (4).



 Install new seal for oil drain screw (4).

 Clean oil drain screw (4).



Fill with engine oil via oil filler opening for oil filler screw (6) on oil filter

 Observe the MTU Specifications for Operating Fluids when doing this otherwise the engine can be damaged.

Screw oil filler screw (6) into oil filter head



 Install new seal for oil filler screw (6).

 Clean oil filler screw (6).



Install oil line to oil filler screw (6)

Pour in coolant

 Observe details given in the operator's manual and MTU Specifications for Operating Fluids otherwise the engine can be damaged.

Checking

 Danger!

Risk of accident caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running

Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Let the engine run and check oil cooler housing (1) for leaks

Turn off engine

Inspect engine oil level, top up if necessary

 Observe details given in the operator's manual and MTU Specifications for Operating Fluids otherwise the engine can be damaged.

Check coolant level, top up if necessary
