Remove crankshaft (1)

 For this step

- screw a guide drift into each end of the crankshaft,

- attach crankshaft, e.g. to a hamp rope, and

- lift crankshaft out of the crankcase with a crane.



Take bearing shells (2) out of the crankcase

 Mark installation position of bearing shells to crankcase.

Clean all parts



- Use a chamois leather to thoroughly clean crankshaft, crankshaft bearings and bearing seats.

- Blow out oil passages of crankcase (from oil pump side) and

- oil passages of crankshaft with compressed air.



Installing

Insert bearing shells (2) into the crankcase

 Oil bearing shells.

Assign crankshaft bearing shells.

Insert bearing shells (3) into the crankshaft bearing caps (4)

 Oil bearing shells.

Assign crankshaft bearing shells.

Install crankshaft (1)

 For this step

- screw a guide drift into each end of the crankshaft,

- attach crankshaft, e.g. to a hamp rope, and

- lift into the crankcase with a crane.

Note: The tooth of the crankshaft sprocket marked with 1 must be located between the teeth of the camshaft sprocket likewise marked with 1 (with camshaft installed).



Install crankshaft bearing caps (4)

 After tightening the bolts of the crankshaft bearing caps, rotate crankshaft by hand to inspect for smooth running. If stiff, slacken the crankshaft bearing cap bolts of bearing 1 - 7 one after the other and in this way pinpoint the crankshaft bearing which is stiff.

Determine crankshaft axial play

 For this step:

- Attach dial gage holder to crankcase.

- Insert dial gage into dial gage holder, pre-load and set scale to "0".

- Move crankshaft longitudinally back and forward (e.g. with a lever).

- Read off axial play on dial gage.

If the measurement for axial play is not within the specified tolerance:

- Check bearing shell of fit bearing and replace if necessary.
