Detach engine compartment encapsulation

Testing

Check exhaust system for external damage

Check metal hoses (1), collapsible sections (2), pipe clamps (3) and suspension elements for condition and proper assembly

Check assembly slots (4) at pipe connections for sufficient overlap

Traces of soot are an indication of leakage.

Danger!

Risk of accident as vehicle may start off by itself with the engine running. Risk of injury as working around the engine during start-up or while running may result in contusions and burns

Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not grasp hot or rotating parts.

Start engine and run at idling speed

Seal off exhaust tailpipes

Seal with suitable aids (e. g. plugs, plate etc.), in order to increase a high exhaust gas pressure.

Check exhaust system at pipe and flange connections for escaping exhaust gas

Particularly at points close to sound proofing and insulation materials.

Leaky parts of the exhaust system have to be replaced (against separate order).

Switch off engine
