1 | Remove vacuum pump (1) | ||
2 | Remove poly-V belt | Only remove poly-V belt from guide pulley in order improve accessibility to the lower bolt (5). | |
3 | Disconnect electrical connectors to quantity control valve (Y94, Y94/3) and fuel temperature sensor (B50, B50/3) | ||
4 | Detach pressure line (2) bracket on cylinder head | ||
5 | Unbolt pressure line (2) at the high pressure pump (3) | Counterhold threaded sleeve when loosening, do not squash or bend pressure line (2) to avoid leaks. Close off connections and observe strict cleanliness. | |
Installation: Check sealing cone on pressure line (2); replace pressure line (2) if necessary. Ensure correct seating of the pressure line (2). | |||
For engine 646.980/981 the box wrench bit SW 18 is to be used. | |||

6 | Remove fuel hoses (4) | Installation: Replace clamps. | |
7 | Remove bolts (5) | | |
8 | Remove high pressure pump (3) upwards | Installation: Replace sealing ring (6), align drive plate (7). | |
9 | Install in the reverse order | ||
10 | Start engine | Repeat starting procedure until the fuel system is bleed and start the engine. Do not actuate starter for longer than 10 seconds otherwise damage can occur. | |

11 | Check for leaks with engine running |
