Service information on immobilization of a front passenger airbag where a rearward mounted (reboard) child seat is fitted

 Wherever possible we recommend accommodating the child seat in the rear area.

Should in the individual case attachment of a rearward-facing child seat to the front passenger seat be expressly required, the front passenger airbag should be immobilized. For safety reasons immobilization is only approved for the models listed.

 Immobilization of the front passenger airbag is never enabled on vehicles:

- with seat belt force limitation

- with ACSR (detectable at the "Airbag Off" or "Passenger Airbag Off" indicator lamp in the center console). For safety reasons an MB child seat with recognition should be used on these vehicles.

 Immobilization of the seat occupied recognition, automatic child seat recognition (ACSR) as well as sidebags and windowbags is not planned.

 After immobilizing the front passenger airbag or also the emergency tensioning retractor it is essential to

 have the customer sign the confirmation after immobilization.

 affix a sticker at a clearly visible point in the area of the front passenger airbag.

 affix a sticker in the Owner's Manual, in the section Airbag.

Carry out the further work procedure as listed in the following.

 Immobilizing can be reversed again at any time.

 Immobilizing and recommissioning must be entered in the vehicle documents

The vehicle should be presented in such a case to a technical inspection center (DEKRA, TÜV). The filled-in confirmation should be submitted to the licensing authorities for entry.

The modifications carried out must be documented in the vehicle documentation system (FDOK).

Carry out variant coding / work procedure

1) Detectable at the "Airbag Off" or "Passenger Airbag Off" indicator lamp in the center console.

2) With HHT functions menu item 5 coding of Reboard child seat. If only the front passenger airbag is deactivated, then program the menu item - vehicle equipment.

3) Depending on the model and version on the front passenger airbag one or two couplings should be detached and corresponding substitute resistors plugged in.

4) Without ACSR [automatic child seat recognition] with seat belt force limitation.

Cancel immobilization

 To reactivate the front passenger airbag the ignition resistance on the line is to be removed.

 Reconnect plug to the front passenger airbag.

 Reprogram to "YES" using the HHT or STAR-DIAGNOSIS (DAS) in the front passenger airbag and front passenger emergency tensioning retractor SRS control unit.

 Remove sticker on the front passenger airbag and invalidate in the operator's manual.

 After immobilization fill in the recommissioning on the certificate.

 When reactivating, immobilization in the vehicle documents should be erased.
