General function
The all-wheel drive planetary gear set acts as a differential and therefore compensates for differences in rotational speed between the front and rear axle.
Task with all-wheel drive engaged
When the all-wheel drive is engaged, 67 % of the input torque of the transfer case is distributed to the rear axle by the all-wheel drive planetary gear set and 33 % to the front axle.
All-wheel drive planetary gear set structure
The all-wheel drive planetary gear set consists of the following components:
All-wheel drive ring gear
All-wheel drive planet carrier
All-wheel drive planetary gear
All-wheel drive sun gear
All-wheel drive function
If the all-wheel drive is engaged, the transfer case actuator motor (M46/2) turns the selector drum (8). The contour on the selector drum (8) causes the all-wheel drive sliding sleeve (6) to be moved through the all-wheel drive shift fork (7). The all-wheel drive sliding sleeve (6) connects the all-wheel drive sun gear to the chain drive for the front wheel drive.
Task with all-wheel drive engaged with engaged transmission ratio
By activating the transmission ratio with all-wheel drive engaged, the input speed of the transfer case is reduced by the transmission ratio planetary gear set in the gear ratio i = 1 : 1.423 and the input torque is increased by the same gear ratio.
The increased torque is distributed 67 % to the rear axle by the all-wheel drive planetary gear set and 33 % to the front axle.
Transmission ratio planetary gear set structure
The transmission ratio planetary gear set consists of the following components:
Transmission ratio ring gear
Transmission ratio planet carrier
Transmission ratio planetary gears
Transmission ratio sun gear
Transmission ratio function
If the transmission ratio is engaged, the transfer case actuator motor (M46/2) continues to turn the selector drum (8). The contour on the selector drum (8) causes the transmission ratio sliding sleeve (3) to be moved through the transmission ratio shift fork (4). The transmission ratio sliding sleeve (3) connects the transmission ratio sun gear to the all-wheel drive planet carrier (5b).
The transmission ratio can only be activated if the all-wheel drive is engaged.
