Remove

Switch off ignition and remove ignition key

Disconnect battery ground line

Remove floor covering in front passenger footwell

Remove footrest (4) on front passenger footwell firewall

Disconnect 10-pin electrical connector (X29/9) in front passenger footwell

Remove cover on passenger side door sill

7

Pull off door aperture edge guard up to height of instrument panel

Unscrew screw/bolt (5) and remove trim of A-pillar in front passenger footwell

Turn retaining clip (6) 90° to the left and remove

Unscrew screws/bolts (3) from lower paneling (X) of passenger side instrument panel and remove paneling (X)

Unscrew front passenger airbag center bolt (2) from front passenger airbag unit

Centering the front passenger airbag unit not possible.



Perform adjustment operations on front passenger airbag unit.

Pull front passenger airbag unit forward from instrument panel until the electrical connector can be reached

Release and disconnect electrical connector at front passenger airbag unit, remove front passenger airbag unit



Install

Position front passenger airbag and connect electrical connector on front passenger airbag unit

Screw in front passenger airbag center bolt (2) of front passenger airbag unit

 Center the front passenger airbag unit.

Perform adjustment operations on front passenger airbag unit.

Install paneling (X) and screw screws/bolts (3) into lower paneling (X) of passenger side instrument panel

Install retaining clip (6) and turn 90° to the right

Unscrew screw/bolt (5) and install paneling of A-pillar in front passenger footwell

Mount edge guard

Install cover on passenger side door sill

Connect 10-pin electrical connector (X29/9) in front passenger footwell

Install footrest (4) on front passenger footwell firewall

Insert front passenger footwell floor covering

Connect ground cable to battery



 Warning

Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running.

Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Start engine, SRS/RS indicator lamp must go off after approx. 4 s

If SRS/RS indicator lamp does not go off after approx. 4 s.



Carry out airbag test program.
