Remove/install



When working on the refrigerant circuit, seal all openings with suitable caps in order to prevent unnecessary penetration by air humidity and dirt.

All sealing rings must be replaced and moistened with compressor oil.

Discharge air conditioning system

 Installation: Refill air conditioning system and check for proper operation and check for leaks.

Remove front end cross member

Remove air ducting

Remove right headlamp

Remove charge air hose (9) from charge air cooler or charge air pipe

 Expose charge air hose (9).

Remove poly-V belt (10)

Remove bolts (11) of power steering pump (12)

 Place power steering pump (12) to one side.



Remove bolts (1) from bracket (2)

Remove lower bolt (4) from refrigerant compressor (5)



Remove bolts (6, 7) of refrigerant lines (3, 8) from refrigerant compressor (5)



Remove refrigerant lines (3, 8)

 Installation: Install new O-ring and moisten with compressor oil.

Seal openings of refrigerant compressor (5)

 Closing plate part no. 601 131 00 21

Disconnect refrigerant compressor clutch connector (Y38.1)

Remove bolts (4) of refrigerant compressor (5)



Remove refrigerant compressor (5) upwards

 Observe oil refill quantity when replacing refrigerant compressor (5).

 If refrigerant compressor (5) is replaced because of internal damage,

Replace refrigerant lines and 

Replace expansion valve.

Replace fluid reservoir

 Whenever any work is carried out on the air conditioning system, the fluid reservoir must be replaced.

Install in the reverse order



Checking

 Danger!

Risk of accident caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury from bruises and burns if you place your hand into the engine when it is started or when it is running.

Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Check air conditioning for proper operation

 Run engine at idling speed for about
4 minutes and check all the component functions which are of relevance for proper operation of the air conditioning system.
