 Warning

Risk of injury to skin and eyes suffering scalding from contact with hot coolantspray. Risk of poisoning from swallowing coolant.

Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90 °C. Open cap slowly and release the pressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage containers.
Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.

Remove/install

Remove low and high-pressure line from expansion valve.

Carefully open cap at coolant expansion reservoir, release pressure in coolant system, and close cap again.

Clamp off coolant hoses (11) with clamping devices and remove from heat exchanger.

 Collect escaping coolant.

 Replace clamps (12).

Remove instrument panel.

Disconnect positive line and ground line from PTC heater booster.

Remove crossmember under instrument panel.

Disconnect electrical connectors (1, 2) from climate control control unit (N22/1).

Disconnect electrical connector (3) from the blower regulator (13).

Guide center air ducts (4) out from air conditioner housing (A32).

Guide front footwell air ducts (5) out from air conditioner housing (A32).

Carefully remove air conditioner housing (A32), and remove to front passenger side.


Ensure correct seating of seal (6) between recess (7) of air conditioner housing (A32) and condensation drain (8).
Otherwise condensation may get into the vehicle interior.

 Helper required.

 Installation: Make sure that the bolts (9) on the firewall sit in the guides (10) on the air conditioner housing (A32).

Install in the reverse order

Fill coolant, bleed engine cooling system, and check for leak tightness.
