Remove/install

 Warning

Risk of injury to skin and eyes suffering scalding from contact with hot coolantspray. Risk of poisoning from swallowing coolant.

Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90 °C. Open cap slowly and release the pressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage containers.
Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.

Remove wiper system

Turn cover (1) upward until the heat exchanger shutoff motor (M16/32) is accessible

Reduce pressure in cooling system

 To do this, carefully open expansion reservoir cover and close again.

Clamp off hot water hose (2) and hot water hose (3) using pinch-off pliers (4)

Release clamp (5) and disconnect hot water hose (2) from heat exchanger shutoff motor (M16/32)

 Collect escaping coolant.

Push rubber boot (6) toward rear out of engine partition wall

Unlock safety clips (7) on heat exchanger shutoff motor (M16/32) using a suitable screwdriver

 Installation: The safety clips (7) on the heat exchanger shutoff motor (M16/32) must audibly engage.

Detach connection fitting of heater hose (3) from heat exchanger shutoff motor (M16/32)

 Collect escaping coolant.

Remove heat exchanger shutoff motor (M16/32) from connection fitting of heat exchanger

 Collect escaping coolant.

Disconnect electrical connector from heat exchanger shutoff motor (M16/32) and remove heat exchanger shutoff motor (M16/32)

Remove rubber boot (6) from heat exchanger shutoff motor (M16/32)

Only when replacing the heat exchanger shutoff motor (M16/32)

Install in the reverse order

Check coolant level, adjust to correct level if necessary

Set maximum heating output on AAC [KLA] control and operating unit or on comfort AAC control and operating unit, start engine, bring to operating temperature at medium engine speed and then switch engine off again

Notes on coolant level

 This bleeds the cooling system. Monitor coolant level in expansion reservoir and correct if necessary.

Check hot water hose (2), hot water hose (3) and heat exchanger shutoff motor (M16/32) for leak tightness

 Carry out visual inspection.
