Replace cable tie (19). | |||

Collect escaping fuel. | |||
6 | Loosen mounting clamp on fuel feed line (11) and disconnect fuel feedline (11) from fuel filter (16) | Collect escaping fuel. | |
7 | Unlock and disconnect connector from fuel return line (13) | Collect escaping fuel. | |
8 | Remove line (14, 17) from activated charcoal canister (15) | ||
9 | Disconnect fuel feed line (18) | Only with code (H12) Warm water auxiliary heater | |
Collect escaping fuel. | |||
10 | Unhook vent tube (12) from plastic holder (20) on underfloor | ||
11 | Loosen mounting clamp (9) on filler neck hose (8) and detach filler neck hose (8) on fuel tank (1) | Installation: Check condition of seal (10); replace if necessary. An excessively high tightening torque for the mounting clamp (9) leads to clamping of the non-return throttle valve in the fuel tank fitting (1). | |
Collect escaping fuel. | |||
12 | Remove mounting frame bow (2) and lower fuel tank (1) slowly until connector on the fuel level indicator/fuel pump (X4) is accessible | Secure fuel tank (1) using a suitable jack stand against falling down. Install new self-locking bolts (3). | |
Observe installation position of shims (4). | |||

13 | Disconnect fuel level indicator/fuel pump (X4) connector and unhook electrical line from the brackets on the fuel tank (1) | ||
14 | Cut off clamp for vent tube (12) on fuel tank (1) and detach vent tube (12) | Only for vehicles from VIN 407'851. | |
Collect escaping fuel. Fit a new hose clamp. | |||
15 | Remove fuel tank (1) | ||
16 | Install in the reverse order | ||

17 | Check fuel system (1) for leaktightness | in area of fuel tank |
