Remove/install rear axle semi-trailing arm

Remove/install

Change vehicle over to Service operation

 On vehicles with air suspension, keep service button (22) pressed for approx. 2 seconds.

Disconnect negative terminal from battery

Remove wheel hub (6)

Remove bolts (15) and (16) for fastening the brake caliper (17) to semi-trailing arm (1)

 Hold brake caliper so that no tension arises at the brake hose.

Detach parking brake brake shoes

Remove mounting bolts (3) of base plate (2) on semi-trailing arm (1) and detach base plate



Detach ABS sensor from semi-trailing arm (1)

 On vehicles with ABS (BB0)

Disconnect electrical lines from rear brake cable (18)

Detach ends of the control rod of ALB valve (19) from semi-trailing arm (1)

 On vehicles with ABS (BB0)

10

Unscrew control linkage (26) from semi-trailing arm (1)

 On vehicles with ABS (BB0)

When detaching the control linkage do not exert any pressure on the ball joint



Detach pressure lines (25) from damper (21)

 Vehicles with air suspension (CL0)

Danger!

Risk of injury caused by pinching or crushing when working on springs or spring bodies that are under tension

Use only approved tensioning devices; shield off hazard area if necessary.
Inspect special tools for damage and proper operation (visual inspection).
Wear protective gloves.

Put down semi-trailing arm (1) on a vertically adjustable hydraulic or mechanical jack stand

 Pay attention to correct mounting.

Remove mounting bolt of damper (21) on semi-trailing arm (1)



Remove rear spring (20)

 Vehicles with air suspension (CL0)
Pay attention to installation position of spring.

Take air spring bellows (24) out of its mount on the semi-trailing arm (1)

 Vehicles with air suspension (CL0)
Do not detach air spring bellows from body.

 Installation: Pay attention to correct fit in the mount.

Remove mounting bolts (13) and (14) of semi-trailing arm (1) from body



Pull out semi-trailing arm (1)

Observe weight and unwieldy form of semi-trailing arm

Install in the reverse sequence



Adjust pressure regulator (ALB) of rear wheel brake
