Remove/install

Move transmission to neutral position and release the parking brake.

Remove left or right wheel and tire assemblies.

Remove lower engine compartment paneling.

Remove front part of left or right front fender liner.

Remove left or right cover (1).

Remove screw (2) on left front axle shaft (5) or right front axle shaft (4).

 Bolt, front axle shaft to wheel bearing

Unscrew nut (6) and pull left or right transverse control arm out of wheel carrier.

 Installation: Replace nut (6).

 Nut, supporting ball joint/transverse control arm to steering knuckle

Guide left front axle shaft (5) or right front axle shaft (4) out of steering knuckle and secure to prevent it falling.

 Installation: Coat the teeth of the left front axle shaft (5) or right front axle shaft (4) towards wheel bearing with Teflon spray.

 Aid of helper required.

Unscrew bolts (3).

If the right front axle shaft (4) is removed.

 Bolt, intermediate shaft bearing cap to engine carrier

Remove left front axle shaft (5) from transmission using a suitable tool and remove from vehicle.

If the left front axle shaft (5) is removed.


Do not damage the radial shaft sealing ring of the transmission.
Otherwise leakages can occur at the transmission.

 Aid of helper required.

 Installation: Always replace retaining ring of left front axle shaft (5).

Pull right front axle shaft (4) out of transmission.

If the right front axle shaft (4) is removed.


Do not damage the radial shaft sealing ring of the transmission.
Otherwise leakages can occur at the transmission.

 Aid of helper required.

Seal opening of left front axle shaft (5) or right front axle shaft (4) in transmission using suitable stop plugs.

 Record plug

Check boots of left front axle shaft (5) or right front axle shaft (4) and replace if necessary.

Check transmission oil level and correct if necessary.
