Remove

Remove right front wheel.

Loosen screw (6) in wheel hub.

 Operate service brake here. Aid of helper required.

Remove lower engine compartment paneling.

Remove torsion bar linkage from stabilizer bar.

Remove ball head of tie rod from steering knuckle.

Remove supporting joint from steering knuckle.

Remove bolt (6).

 Dispose of bolt (6).

Remove screw (2) and fold up mounting bracket (3).

Pull front axle shaft (1) out of wheel hub.

 To do so, swivel steering knuckle to one side.

Pull front axle shaft (1) out of axle drive module (4) and remove.

 Catch oil running out.

Check

Check boots of front axle shaft (1).

 Visual inspection only.

If corresponding findings are present,



Replace respective boot.

Install

Replace radial shaft sealing ring.

Insert cover (5) into radial shaft sealing ring.

Insert front axle shaft (1) into cover (5) far enough until toothing of front axle shaft (1) has passed radial shaft sealing ring.

Pull out cover (5) in direction of arrow (arrow A) and remove from front axle shaft (1).

Slide front axle shaft (1) all the way into axle drive module (4).

Insert front axle shaft (1) into wheel hub.


The spur toothing of the front axle shaft (1) must engage with the teeth on the wheel bearing.
This prevents damage to the front axle shaft (1) or the wheel bearing.

 For this, turn spur toothing of front axle shaft (1) in opposite direction relative to toothing on wheel bearing until they positively mesh.

Tighten new screw (6) lightly by hand.

Close mounting bracket (3) and screw in screw (2).

 Make sure that the bearing of the front axle shaft (1) is seated correctly.

Check transmission oil level.
