Remove/install exhaust gas recirculation cooler

Remove/Install

 Danger!

Risk of injury to skin and eyes suffering scalding from contact with hot coolant spray. Risk of poisoning from swallowing coolant.

Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90 °C. Open cap slowly and release the pressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage bottles.

Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and eye protection.

Remove water collector

Remove bolts (1)



Pull connection pipes (2) out of exhaust gas recirculation cooler (3)

 Installation: Replace the gaskets.

Danger!

Risk of death cased by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform.

Align vehicle between the columns of the hydraulic hoist and position the four support plates below the hoist support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.

Raise vehicle.

Pinch off coolant hoses (5, 8) using suitable hose clamps

Loosen clamps (4, 7), remove coolant hoses (5, 8) from exhaust gas recirculation cooler (3)

 Collect coolant which flows out in a suitable vessel.

Unscrew bolt (6)



Undo bolts (arrows) and remove exhaust gas recirculation cooler (3) with its associated seal

 Installation: Install new gasket



Install in the reverse order

 Danger!

Risk of accident caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury caused by contusions and burns when working in engine during starting procedure

Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not grasp hot or rotating parts.

Perform engine test run and check coolant system around exhaust gas recirculation cooler (3) for leaks

Check coolant level, adjust to correct level if necessary.



Engine cooling system - inspect fluid level, adjust to correct level. Inspect anticorrosion/ antifreeze protection, adjust to correct concentration
