Remove

 Danger

Risk of explosion caused by fuel igniting, risk of poisoning caused by inhaling and swallowing fuel as well as risk of injury to eyes and skin caused by contactwith fuel.

No fires, sparks, open flames or smoking. Pour fuels into suitable and appropriately marked containers only.
Wear protective clothing when handling fuel.

Remove latch (1) and remove engine compartment cover (2)

Clean engine extensively around the pressure regulating valve and dry with compressed air

Cold degreasing agent/cold cleaning solvent HAKU 1025-920

Release clamp (3) and detach line (5) from mixer housing

Release clamp (4), detach line (5), and remove

Remove screw and remove bracket (6)

 Installation: Ensure that the bracket (6) is seated and positioned correctly on the fuel lines.

 Bolt, bracket of fuel line to high pressure pump

Detach line (7) and line (8) from the high-pressure pump, seal opening with a stop plug, and remove sealing ring


To prevent damage, release the line by turning it back and forth slightly and pull out straight, not at the line.
In doing so, do not kink or twist the line.

 Installation: Install new sealing ring and wet with clean diesel fuel.

Detach plug (9) from engine wiring harness at the pressure regulating valve (Y74)


Operate carefully,
because otherwise, the catch tab may break off from the plug.

 Installation: Make sure that the plug is locked.

Remove screws (10) of the pressure regulating valve (Y74) from the rail and pull out pressure regulating valve (Y74)


Do not remove pressure regulating valve (Y74) from the rail using tools,
because otherwise, damage may occur.

 Pull out pressure regulating valve (Y74) counterclockwise by hand in combination with a turning motion.

 Installation: Replace sealing ring (11), sealing ring (12), and sealing ring (13) and wet with clean diesel fuel.

 Screw/bolt, pressure regulating valve to rail

Clean rail


Do not clean with the aid of mechanical tools,
because otherwise, damage to the rail may occur.

Install in the reverse order

 Installation: Do not insert engine compartment cover (2)

 Warning

Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running.

Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Keep all ignition sources out of hazard area.
Do not carry out any work on system when it is pressurized.

Check common rail system for leak tightness

 Allow engine to run, switch off, and check for leak tightness.
