Remove cylinder head (1)

Remove charge air manifold from cylinder head (1)

Place cylinder head (1) on the assembly board

 Observe position of the insertion plate in the assembly board.

Use cylinder head bolts.



Assemble assembly tool for valves (9) and install on the cylinder head

 Screw retaining fork (part 12) on the cylinder head cover sealing surface into a thread and position thrust piece (part 7) vertically at top of valve spring retainer (3).

 Assemble the assembly tool for valves (9) using parts from the case of assembly tools for valve (separate part 3, 5, 7, 12, 19).

Press valve spring (4) together using assembly tool for valves (9) and remove split valve spring retainer lock (2) with magnetic pin (8)

 Installation: Observe correct seating of the split valve spring retainer locks (1) otherwise engine damage could result.



Remove the top valve spring cap (3) and the valve spring (4)

 Inspect top valve spring retainer (3) for pitting, replace if necessary.

Pull off valve stem seal (5) using pliers (10)



 Installation: Push protective sleeve (11) over the valve stem, lubricate the valve stem seal (5) and press on using a drift (12).



Take off bottom valve spring retainer (6)

 Inspect bottom valve spring retainer (6) for pitting, replace if necessary.

Unscrew cylinder head (1) from assembly board and remove valves (7) downwards

 Check surface of valve stems for roughness and check for ridging (visual inspection or a nail probe); replace valves (7) if necessary.



Install in reverse order
