Modification notes
| Remove/install | ||
1 | Remove camshafts | ||
2 | Remove hydraulic valve clearance compensation elements
3 | Take camshaft housing (1) off cylinder head | Installation: Pay attention to dowel sleeves (2).
4 | Position piston of cylinder to be processed to TDC | Rotate engine at crankshaft; hold timing chain up for this step so that it does not jam. Do not crank engine back.
One piston only is always positioned at TDC.
5 | Install retaining lock (13) for crankshaft/starter ring gear | Insert through starter opening. After setting the cylinder to be processed to TDC in order to prevent the crankshaft or the piston being turned any further.
6 | Insert connection piece (11) into the injector hole and attach | The connection piece is attached with the original tensioning claw (9) and a base (8) (9 mm thick).
| |||
7 | Fit cylinder leak tester (12) to the connection piece (11) | Calibrate tester. Pressurize compression chamber of cylinder to be inspected to about 5 bar
| |||
8 | Attach valve assembly tool (14) to the cylinder head | Screw retaining fork (part 12) into a thread at edge of cylinder head and position thrust piece (part 7) vertically at top valve spring retainer (4).
Use parts (3, 5, 7, 12, 19) from valve assembly tool case.
9 | Use valve assembly tool (14) to compress valve springs (5)
10 | Use magnetic pin (15) to remove valve collets (3) | Installation: Ensure the valve collets (3) are properly fitted.
| |||
11 | Remove top valve spring retainer (4) and valve springs (5) | Valves must not be seated on the piston crown. Inspect top valve spring retainer (4) for pitting, replace if necessary.
| Closing force of valve spring modified | ||
12 | Use pliers (16) to pull off valve stem seals (6) | Inspect valve stems for ridges, remove burrs if necessary.
Installation: Oil valve stem seals (6) and press on with drift (17).
| |||
| |||
13 | Take off bottom valve spring retainer (7) | Inspect bottom valve spring retainer (7) for pitting, replace if necessary.
14 | Install in the reverse order |
