Warning | Risk of injury caused by pinching or crushing when working on springs or spring bodies that are under tension | Use only approved tensioning devices; additionally screen off hazardous area if necessary. Check special tools for damage and proper operation (visual inspection). Wear protective gloves.
Warning | Risk of injury. Moving parts can pinch, crush or, in extreme cases even sever extremities. | No parts of the body or limbs should be within the operating area of mechanical components when moving components.
Caution | Risk of injury to skin and eyes due to handling of engine oil. Risk of poisoning caused by swallowing engine oil | Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.
Topical note | Notes on avoiding damage through contamination and foreign objects
| Remove | ||
1 | Remove timing case cover.
2 | Tension tensioning rail (1.2) and secure.
As a result of the tensioning rail (1.2) being tensioned, the bush chain of the oil pump (4) is slackened.
The slide/tensioning rail (1) is a combination of the slide rail (1.1) and the tensioning rail (1.2).
3 | Remove bearing pins (2) and remove the slide/tensioning rail (1).
| Check | ||
4 | Check slide/tensioning rail (1) for wear, galling, and damage. | If there is a problem,
| |||
Clamp slide/tensioning rail (1) into a vise, release tensioning rail (1.2), slacken, and replace slide/tensioning rail (1).
Dispose of the slide/tensioning rail (1) only when it is slackened.
Installation: The new part of the slide/tensioning rail (1) is delivered while tensioned and may be slacked only after installation on the engine. Otherwise, installation is not possible.
| Install | ||
5 | Position slide/tensioning rail (1) on the timing chain (3) and on the bush chain of the oil pump (4).
6 | Screw in bearing pins (2). | Bearing pin, slide rail/tensioning rail to crankcase
7 | Release tensioning rail (1.2) and slacken.
As a result of the tensioning rail (1.2) being slackened, the bush chain of the oil pump (4) is tensioned.
8 | Install timing case cover. |
