Remove

1

Remove integrated starter alternator (A79).

Remove oil pan bottom section.

Remove cylinder head.

Remove screws (3, 4) contrary to the tightening procedure.

 Pay attention to different lengths of screws.

Remove timing case cover (1).


During removal process, do not drive in any tool between timing case cover (1) and crankcase (2).
Sealing surfaces will otherwise be damaged.

Remove radial shaft sealing ring (6).

Clean

Clean sealing surfaces on the timing case cover (1), crankcase (2), and oil pan (5).


Do not use any sharp-edged tools or abrasive paper.
The sealing surfaces will otherwise be damaged.

Install

Install timing case cover (1).

Observe notes on sealant path.
Leaks can occur otherwise.

 Apply sealing compound to the timing case cover (1).
The pilot bushings of the crankcase (2) must engage in the cutouts in the timing case cover (1).

Tighten screws (3, 4).

 Installation: Only install upper engine cover and lower engine compartment paneling after the performing a leak test.

 Warning

Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running.

Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Carry out engine test run and check engine for proper leak tightness and leak tightness.

Install lower engine compartment lining.
