Remove/install

Remove rail on the right cylinder head (18).

Remove fuel injectors on the right cylinder head (18).

Remove the oil separator.

Remove exhaust gas recirculation.

Remove the vacuum pump.

Remove the holder (4) from the right cylinder head cover (1).

 To do this, remove screws/bolts (3).

Remove electrical wiring harness (2) from right cylinder head cover (1).

Loosen and remove screws (13) in stages and in reverse order of the tightening procedure, when the engine has cooled down.

 Removal:
Only loosen screws (13) when the engine has cooled down.
Otherwise, distortion of the cylinder head cover (1) may occur.

 Installation:
Observe tightening procedure and tightening specifications for screws/bolts (13).
Distortion of the left cylinder head cover (1) can occur otherwise and lead to damage to the camshafts.

Remove the cylinder head cover (1).

Notes on sealant path for cylinder head cover

 Removal:
Pry off cylinder head cover (1) from the cylinder head (18) with the greatest of caution.
Otherwise, the cylinder head cover (1) may be damaged.

 Removal: Pry off cylinder head cover (1) to the corners (arrows) carefully from the cylinder head (18) using a suitable tool.

 The cylinder head cover (1) can only be replaced in combination with the cylinder head (18).

 Installation: Replace cap (19).
Remove sealant residues from the sealing surfaces of the cylinder head cover (1) and cylinder head (18).
Lubricate bearing points for camshaft bearing.

Install in the reverse order.

 Warning

Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running.

Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Perform engine test run and check engine in the area of the cylinder head cover (1) for leak tightness.

 Visual inspection only.
