Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running.

Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Remove/install

Warm up engine to normal operating temperature.

 The compression pressure should only be checked when engine is at normal operating temperature.

Turn the key in the ignition lock into position "0".

Remove glow plugs.

Crank engine using contact switch (4) of compression recorder (1).

 Crank engine several times to eliminate combustion residues in the cylinder.

Screw screw-in piece (3) with check valve installed into glow plug hole of cylinder to be tested.

Connect compression recorder (1) with adapter (2) to screw-in piece (3).

Check

Check compression pressure.

 Only crank engine using contact switch (4) of compression recorder (1).

 To check the compression pressure, the engine must be turned over using the starter for at least eight revolutions.

Compare measured pressure values with specified test values.

Check cylinder leakage.
