Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running.

Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Remove/install

Bring engine up to operating temperature of approx. 80°C

 Only perform compression test when engine is at its normal operating temperature.

Remove glow plugs

Crank engine with starter

 Do not crank engine at transmitter key but use contact switch of  compression recorder (1). Crank engine several times with the starter in order to eliminate combustion residues in the cylinder.

Screw screw-in piece (3) with installed check valve in the glow plug hole of the cylinder to be checked

Connect compression recorder (1) with connection piece (2) to screw-in piece (3)

Check

Check compression pressure by cranking engine with starter for at least 8 revolutions

 Do not crank engine at transmitter key but actuate contact switch of  compression recorder (1).

Carry out test procedure at remaining cylinders in the same way

Compare pressure readings obtained with test values

Compression pressure, permissible difference between the cylinders

Wear limit or limit value of compression pressure

Installation tolerance or new value of compression pressure

If the pressure lies below the minimum compression pressure or if the permissible difference between the individual cylinders is exceeded, check for cylinder leakage.


