A40.1 Plug connection

 	Remove/install
1	Switch off ignition
2	Remove ashtray housing (8)		AR82.00-S-9999A
3	Remove cover (13)		AR68.10-S-3430A
4	Unhook ball socket (3) from relay lever (2)	 Installation: Check shift operation function, if necessary.: 
		Adjust shift cable.
		Model 638 up to VIN 400544	AR27.60-S-1470A
		Model 638 as of VIN 400545	AR27.60-S-1470B
5	Remove retainer (4)	 Installation: Check retainer (4), replace if necessary.
6	Unplug connector (A40.1)
7	Remove screws (6) with shims (5) and remove gearshift bracket (1) upwards	 While doing so, remove shift cable (7) from mounting hole. Wire (12) for parking lock shift lock is still connected.  Installation: Guide shift cable (7) into mounting hole.

8	Push back shackle (arrow) and unhook wire (12) from lever (11)	 Installation: Before installation of gearshift bracket, check parking lock shift lock function, if necessary: 
		 Adjust wire for park lock interlock.	AR27.60-S-0965A
9	Press retainers together (arrows) and unclip longitudinal displacement (10) at thrust bearing (9)
10	Pull wire (12) out of end support (9) and remove gearshift bracket (1)
11	Install in the reverse order
