Remove steering wheel

 Front wheels in straight-ahead position, steering wheel lock engaged.

Detach connector of clock spring contact/AB (A45x1), create access to line

Detach connector of clock spring contact/relay (A45x2), create access to line

Unscrew fastening bolts (32h) only sufficiently to remove the clock spring contact (A45)

 The fastening bolts also act as protection against twisting and as an assembly aid.

Carefully remove clock spring contact (A45) from steering column tube

 Installation: Slide on clock spring contact (A45) as far as the end stop, the cutout must match with the lock tab (arrows).

 If the clock spring contact is twisted, e.g. when the steering coupling is removed: 

Adjust center position of clock spring contact.

Pay attention to the correct seat of the retaining ring (70h)



Checking

Check distance dimension (b) between the retaining ring (70h) and bracket (85)

Vehicles with electrically adjustable steering column.

 Only required if there are complaints of grinding noises: 

Model 129, 140, 210.

Check the spiral contact coil (A45) for damage

Visual inspection.

 The upper (32f) and lower section (32g) of the clock spring contacts are clipped together and can only be separated by alot of force or faulty assembly. If this is the case, wind up the clock spring contact carefully and assemble cautiously, so that the scrolls (32e) do not pinch or kink.

 Do not use oil or grease!
