The display indicates that the meter is ready to measure angle 5. This angle is no longer measured.

1 Press MEMORY button once.
The main menu appears.

2 Press MEMORY button again.
The measured absolute angles and the calculated articulation angle 1 (c) and articulation angle 2 (e) are displayed.

3 Record articulation angle 1 (c) e.g. +0.26° and articulation angle 2 (e) e.g. +0.58° on the data sheet.

4 Press the STEP button.

The articulation angles can be calculated using the difference between the respective absolute angles.

Front articulation angle (1) :

Transmission to front propeller shaft

Center articulation angle (2):

Front propeller shaft to rear propeller shaft

Rear articulation angle (3):

Rear propeller shaft to rear axle center assembly

All articulation angle differences should be as close as possible to the center of the relevant tolerance range.

Correcting rear articulation angle (3):

In the example, the front and center articulation angles (1, 2) are within the tolerance range, but the rear articulation angle (3) is outside the tolerance range.

To correct the rear articulation angle (3), fit a shim of 2 mm thickness between the rear axle housing and rubber mount, in addition to any existing shims (arrow).

A 1 mm thick shim changes the articulation angle by approx. 0.25° to 0.33°.

Shims are available as replacements parts in thicknesses from 1 mm to 4 mm.

The bolt length does not have to be increased when using shims up to a maximum of 6 mm thickness.

If a shim thicker than 6 mm is required, check the front rubber mounts of the rear axle mount for correct position and signs of wear, and replace if necessary.

Shows model 203

Correcting front (1) and center articulation angles (2)

Shims in steel or aluminum will need to be fabricated on-site to correct the inclination angle. The dimension for the shims must be taken from the corresponding part.

Depending on the correction the shim must be installed between the:

Rear engine crossmember and frame floor.

Rear engine crossmember and rear engine mount.

Driveshaft intermediate bearing and frame floor.

A 1 mm thick shim changes the articulation angle by
approx. 0.17°.

When using shims > 2 mm thick, increase the bolt length by
5 mm.

If you determine that the shim depth required to obtain the desired correction exceeds 5 mm, proceed to inspect the front and rear engine mounts for signs of wear and compression, replace as indicated.

Carry out a check measurement again each time the articulation angle is corrected.
