Modification notes
| Remove/install | ||
Danger! | Risk of death caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. | Align vehicle between columns of vehicle lift and position four support plates at vehicle lift support points specified by vehicle manufacturer.
| Notes on self-locking nuts and bolts | ||
| Before starting work the area around the oil cooler lines (1, 2) must be thoroughly cleaned in the area around the separation points. Even the smallest dirt particles, introduced into the hydraulic components, can lead to malfunctions and a total failure of the transmission | ||
1 | Move selector lever into position "N"
2 | Release parking brake
3 | Switch ignition off, remove ignition key (transmitter key) | Vehicles with Keyless-Go code 889: Press the Keyless-Go start and stop button repeatedly until the ignition is switched off. Remove the Keyless Go transmitter card or transmitter key from the vehicle and store beyond the reach of the transmitter (min.
4 | Open engine hood and raise to vertical position
5.1 | Unclip safety clamps (7, 8) of the left and right oil cooler line (1, 2) on the radiator (3) | With plug-in type oil cooler lines (1, 2)
Do not pull the oil cooler lines (1, 2) out of the radiator (3).

| |||
Do not pull the oil cooler lines (1, 2) out of the radiator (3).
6 | Remove bottom engine compartment paneling
7 | Pull oil cooler lines (1, 2) out of the radiator (3) | In order to avoid damage and leakage, do not kink or bend oil cooler lines (1, 2).
Collect escaping transmission oil in a suitable container and seal off line connections with plugs.
| |||
Installation: Replace O-rings.
8 | Remove bolts (4, 9) and pull left and right oil cooler line (1, 2) out of the transmission | In order to avoid damage and leakage, do not kink or bend oil cooler lines (1, 2).
Collect escaping transmission oil in a suitable container and seal off line connections with plugs.
| |||
Installation: Replace O-rings.
| |||
9 | Detach double hose clamp from oil cooler lines (1, 2)
Left oil cooler line | |||
10 | Mount engine support frame and lift up engine lift | Raise engine until the front engine mounts are completely relieved of load.
Engine support frame | |||
11 | Detach right and left engine mount from front axle carrier
| |||
12 | Detach retaining clamps (10, 11, 12) from engine oil pan and remove the left oil cooler line (1) | To prevent damage and leaks, do not bend or kink left oil line (1).
The left oil cooler line (1) is removed via the intermediate space arising between the engine mount and front axle carrier.
| |||
Right oil cooler line | |||
13 | Detach retaining clamp (5, 6) from the engine oil pan and remove the right oil cooler line (2) | To prevent damage and leaks, do not bend or kink right oil cooler line (2).
| |||
14 | Install in the reverse order
15 | Check transmission oil level and correct if necessary | Always observe work procedure and Specifications for Operating Fluids, otherwise transmission will be damaged.
Danger! | Risk of accident caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running | Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
16 | Carry out engine test run, checking the transmission for function and oil leaks |
