The specified basic dimension is given by the adjusting yoke of the adjusting device. It is 65.4 mm on HL 2.
1 Attach adjusting yoke (1) to adjusting device (3) and insert dial gauge (2) in the adjusting device (3).
2 Preload dial gauge (2) approx. 2 mm and set to zero.
This adjustment corresponds to the specified basic dimension of 65.4 mm.
3 Remove adjusting yoke (1) from adjusting device (3).
D35.30-0135-01
4 Insert adjusting device (3) in the rear axle housing so that the centering pin engages
in the centering bore of the drive pinion and the tracer pin of the dial gauge (2) is aligned with the end face (arrow) of the drive pinion.
5 Read off dimensional deviation.
6 Determine installed dimension.
Example: dimensional deviation e.g. +0.1 mm + basic dimension 65.4 mm = 65.5 mm.
W35.30-0025-01
Each drive pinion and crown wheel belonging to a crown wheel/pinion is marked with an electrically engraved number. Only crown wheel/pinions with the same number should be installed. The marking is located on the end face of the drive pinion and on the inclined face of the crown wheel.
Example: Crown wheel/pinion designation 527 + 0.3
The first number (527) is the number of the crown wheel/pinion.
The second number (+0.3) is the dimensional deviation from the basic dimension in mm, thus + 0.3 mm.
Determining installed dimension:
Example, crown wheel/pinion 527 + 0.3
Basic dimension HL 2 65.4 mm
Dimensional deviation on
crown wheel + 0.3 mm
Adjustment dimension for
crown wheel/pinion 289 thus 65.7 mm
Measured installed dimension
(basic dimension with dimensional
deviation) 65.5 mm
To achieve the basic dimension 0.2 mm thicker spacer disks (max. 4 pieces) must be installed behind the inner outer race of the tapered roller bearing in the axle housing.
This means the distance between the center of the crown wheel and the end face of the drive pinion must be increased by 0.2 mm.
Spacer disks are available in thicknesses of 0.1 mm and 0.25 mm.

7 If necessary, remove drive pinion (1) again and correct the distance between the drive pinion and axle housing by means of spacer disks (2).
The thicker spacer disk must be installed towards the axle center.
8 Install drive pinion housing and repeat the measurement.
