Danger | Risk of death caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. | Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.
Warning | Risk of injury. Skin or eye injuries may result when handling hot or glowing objects. | Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses, if necessary.
Warning | Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. | Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.
Caution | Risk of injury to skin and eyes due to handling of transmission oil. Health risk caused by swallowing transmission oil | Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.

| |||
Align vehicle only, do not raise it yet.
2 | Mount diagnostic device.
| Connect/disconnect diagnostic unit | ||
3 | Start engine. | ||
4 | Shift through all drive ranges. | To do so, operate the service brake and parking brake. Keep engine running at idle speed. Leave each drive range engaged for 10 s. Then engage drive range "P" and do not switch off engine.
5 | Query temperature of transmission oil using diagnostic device.
The test temperature of the transmission oil after the automatic transmission oil cooler has been changed or drained must be 80 °C.
6 | Raise vehicle. | ||
7 | Remove lower engine compartment lining. | If installed.
8 | Remove screw plug (3) of oil level bore and check transmission oil level. | To do so, position suitable receptacle under oil level bore.
When the engine is running, the transmission oil level must reach the lower edge of the oil level bore.
Commercially available devices/tools
9 | Screw in screw plug (3). | If transmission oil level is correct,
| |||
Replace screw plug (3) and tighten to specified torque.

If transmission oil level is too low,
| |||
Tighten screw plug (3) lightly by hand.
10 | Lower vehicle. | If transmission oil level is to be corrected.
11 | Clean area around filling screw (2). | If the transmission oil level is being corrected for the first time during the work procedure.

14 | Raise vehicle. | If transmission oil level has been corrected.
15 | Remove screw plug (3) of oil level bore and check transmission oil level again. | If transmission oil level has been corrected.
Continue to observe the test temperature of the transmission oil.
When the engine is running, the transmission oil level must reach the lower edge of the oil level bore.
Commercially available devices/tools
If transmission oil is below specified test temperature as a result of filling,
| |||
Increase transmission oil temperature to appropriate test temperature.
If the transmission oil level is correct,
| |||
Replace screw plug (3) and tighten to specified torque.
