Danger | Risk of death when working on component parts and systems with U >= 30 V alternating voltage (AC) or U >= 60 V direct voltage (DC) | Do not touch damaged or defective live component parts and lines or non-insulated electrical connections and lines.
Warning | Risk of injury to skin and eyes suffering scalding from contact with hot coolantspray. Risk of poisoning from swallowing coolant. | Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90 °C. Open cap slowly and release the pressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage containers.

1 | Lock electric coolant pumps using vehicle diagnosis system.
| Connect STAR DIAGNOSIS and read out fault memory | ||
| |||
Work through specified procedure completely.
Do not yet remove vehicle diagnosis system.
2 | Remove cap (1) of coolant expansion reservoir (2). | First unscrew cap (1) counterclockwise up to the safety catch and release overpressure. Then remove cap (1).
3 | Remove front bumper. | ||
4 | Remove bottom engine compartment lining.
5 | Remove coolant hose line (7) from cooler (8) and drain coolant.
Collect coolant. | |||
6 | Lower vehicle. | ||
7 | Attach tester cap (16) to coolant expansion reservoir (2). | Test cap
8 | Attach pressure pump (17) to tester cap (16). | Pressure pump
Test cap | |||
9 | Use pressure pump (17) to generate pressure until coolant no longer escapes.
Collect coolant. | |||
Pressure pump | |||
10 | Raise vehicle. | ||
11 | Reattach coolant hose line (7) to cooler (8).
12 | Install front bumper. | If no additional work is required in this area.
13 | Remove cross strut. | ||
14 | Remove coolant hose line (18) from connection fitting at high-voltage battery (20) and drain coolant.
Collect coolant. | |||
15 | Lower vehicle. | ||
16 | Use pressure pump (17) to generate pressure until coolant no longer escapes.

29 | Bleed coolant circuit for high-voltage battery (20) using diagnostic system.
| Connect STAR DIAGNOSIS and read out fault memory | ||
The coolant pumps are released automatically when they are bled.
The duration of the bleeding process for the cooling circuit of the high-voltage battery (20) is approx. 30 min.
30 | Remove charger from 12 volt on-board electrical system battery.
| Check | ||
31 | Check coolant level of coolant circuit of high-voltage battery (20). | If coolant level incorrect
| |||
Correct coolant level.
Electric drive cooling system
32 | Check coolant circuit of high-voltage battery (20) for leaks.
Reinstall lower engine compartment lining after leak test. |
