Special tools
Grinding crankshaft
1 Clean crankshaft, check alinement, roundness of journals, hardness, and absence of cracks in the bearing points. Replace crankshafts which have cracks or are bent.
2 Check hardness of the crankshaft.
Hardness tester 000 589 20 21 00
3 Re-center crankshaft before grinding (mounted at first and last main bearing journal).
4 If all the bearing points are machined, re-grind the crankshaft to the next undersize.
Notes
- Keep to the figures stated in the data table.
- The undersizes of the conrod and main bearing journals may differ.
- Machine all the main bearing and conrod bearing journals to the same undersize.
- Keep to the fillet radii of the main bearing journals (B) and conrod bearing journals (A).
- The width of the fitted bearing (C) alters at the same time with the undersizes, which necessitate machining the contact surface of the crankshaft.
5 Lap surface after grinding.
6 Lap radii of the oil galleries at the crankshaft.
