Disc brake Wabco
1 Brake cylinder
2 Brake caliper.
3 Brake pads
4 Brake rotor
Structure
Comprised by a brake disc (4) linked to the wheels; a brake caliper with the pressure device where the brake pads (3) are installed and a brake cylinder (1).
Operation
When actuating the brake through the cylinder (1) and by the pressure device, the brake pads (3) are conducted in the caliper against the disc brake (4). Thus, the vehicle is braked by the friction force generated between the disc (4) and the brake pads (3). When releasing the brake, the actuating device turns back to the initial position.
The automatic readjustment device ensures the pre-established clearance after its release, making the discs being released.
Advantages of the disc brake related to drum brake:
Higher permissible thermal load;
Lower loss from overheating and abrasion effect (fading)
Insensibility to friction fluctuations;
Good staggering capacity;
High performance;
Easy brake pads replacement.
