To improve operating convenience, the central locking system and the anti-theft alarm system can be operated with an infrared transmitter in the key head. In addition, any side windows and the tilting/sliding roof can be closed if still open or the side windows can be opened again within 10 s after central closing.
All processes are displayed by feedback lamps.Remote control is possible up to a distance of approx. 6 m with the maximum capacity of the transmitter batteries, remote control of the convenience operation up to a distance of approx. 3 m.
Up to 11/94, up to 08/95, the receiver units are located next to the driver's door lock cylinder and next to the trunk lid lock cylinder.
As of 12/94, as of 09/95 the receiver unit with feedback lamps is located on the interior mirror. There is no receiver unit located in the driver's door handle. Only feedback lamps are located here (not ).
Function
The infrared remote control system can only be operated with the remote control for the specific vehicle , because the remote control and the control module installed in the vehicle are matched to one another.
The remote control transmits the remote control signal to the receiver as an infrared light beam. The receiver receives the light beam, filters out foreign light, amplifies the remote control signal and relays it to the control module via a control line.
The remote control signal consists of a fixed code which is encoded again by a processor. This additional encoding changes with each operation, preventing the remote control signal from being decoded.
The control module decodes the remote control signal and actuates the central locking, the convenience feature and the ATA when the fixed code is correct. Simultaneously the control module switches over to the next remote control signal and inhibits the previous remote control signal.
When the remote control is actuated outside of the reception range the current remote control signal changes in the transmitter, however, not in the control module.
When the remote control is used again within the reception range the remote control signal from the remote control does not correspond to the remote control signal expected by the control module. However, since the control module is capable of calculating the next 250 codes it switches over to the current remote control signal.
If the remote control is actuated more than 250 times outside of the reception range it is necessary to resynchronize the remote control (see 80-420).
When the remote control key is lost the alternating part of the code of the remote control signal can be reset (desynchronized) by connecting circuit 31 on the RCL diagnostic connector to the data link connector (X11/4) for 30 - 40 seconds with the ignition ON.
Desynchronization is also possible with the pulse counter or hand-held tester. This means that it is only necessary to replace the mechanical lock if the remote control key is lost. It is then necessary to resynchronize all remote control keys for the lock.
As of 12/94 desynchronization is only possible with the hand-held tester.
