Oil cooling system in general
The oil cooling system lowers the temperature of the transmission oil thereby preventing any overheating damage to the automatic transmission.
Function sequence for oil cooling system
The transmission oil is drawn out of the oil pan by a mechanical pump in the automatic transmission and then pumped through the feed to the oil thermostat (J). At a transmission oil temperature of < 90 °C, the oil thermostat routes the transmission oil over the return flow back to the automatic transmission. At a transmission oil temperature > 90 °C, the oil thermostat opens and the transmission oil flows through the oil cooler (C) before it flows back through the return line to the automatic transmission.
