Function

The O2 sensor heater brings the O2 sensor downstream TWC and the O2 sensor upstream TWC rapidly to the operating temperature to prevent damage to the ceramic probe body. The rapid heating of the sensor means a high degree of control is achieved, even at low exhaust temperatures.

At low coolant temperatures and at high engine speeds, the O2 sensor heater is switched off to protect the sensor ceramic from overheating (thermal shock).

The O2 sensor heater is actuated by the motor electronics control unit.
