General
The shutting down procedure of the engine is initiated if a corresponding shutting down request is present over the drive CAN (CAN 4) (for shutting down the engine by actuating the engine start and engine stop button correspondingly (S600) or via the ignition lock).
Function
As soon as the engine management (MCM) control unit (A4) receives a corresponding shutting down request via the drive CAN (CAN 4) or the engine start and engine stop button (S600) is actuated while the engine is running, it interrupts the actuation of the fuel injectors for cylinders 1 to 6 (Y608 to Y613) and actuates the quantity control valve (Y643) so that the fuel supply in the fuel high-pressure pump is interrupted. The fact that no further injection occurs means that the engine comes to a standstill and stops.
At engine oil temperatures below 70 °C, the engine brake is additionally activated so that the engine can "coast down" on switching off. At engine oil temperatures over 70 °C, it can therefore occur that the engine "vibrates" on switching off.
